The Ohio-based Recycling Today Media Group has announced an arrangement for 2021 to publish contributions from long-time ferrous scrap trader and industry consultant Nathan Fruchter. The scrap veteran will write feature articles and contribute semiregular essays on global ferrous scrap history, emerging developments and market trends.
Fruchter is the founder of New York-based Idoru Trading Corp, which he describes as an independent trading and consulting company for ferrous scrap and other recycled products. With 35 years of trading, shipping, and logistics experience, Fruchter says he has “pioneered scrap exports from several new geographies and developed lasting business relationships through volatile and fundamental changes in the industry.”
The veteran trader began his career in New York in the ferrous scrap division of Marc Rich & Co. in 1984. In 1989, he was transferred to London, where he helped build the European ferrous scrap operations of Marc Rich and successor firm Glencore. He played a key role in developing the ferrous group’s collection and trans-shipment terminals in Rotterdam, Amsterdam and Antwerp as well as Poland, Ukraine and the far east of Russia.
Fruchter currently also serves as a consultant to exporting recyclers, steel mills and private equity firms, identifying opportunities in the ferrous scrap recycling, steelmaking and related industries. He has often been featured as a guest speaker or as part of panel discussions at industry conferences. Fruchter grew up in Antwerp, has a degree in economics from Yeshiva University in New York, and is fluent in French, German and Dutch.
“We’re excited to welcome Nathan as a contributor to Recycling Today,” states Jim Keefe, publisher of the Recycling Today Media Group. “Nathan is highly regarded in the industry, and rightly so. Right along with our readers, I am looking forward to reading the insights, analysis and historical context he’ll offer to us in 2021.”
